Climate, Environment and Environmental Safeguarding.

AZM Foundation recognizes that poverty, health, education, livelihoods, water security, displacement and disaster risk are increasingly shaped by climate change and environmental degradation. The Foundation will therefore mainstream climate and environmental considerations across all programmes and projects from initial assessment and design to budgeting, implementation, monitoring, learning and exit planning.

Screen every proposed project for climate hazards, environmental impacts and risks to communities and workers.
Apply proportionate environmental and social safeguards, mitigation measures and grievance mechanisms.
Prioritize low-carbon, resource-efficient, pollution-preventive and nature-sensitive delivery options where technically and financially feasible.
Build community capacity for climate adaptation, disaster preparedness and sustainable management of land, water, energy and waste.
Track climate and environmental indicators within each programme rather than reporting climate action only through separate projects.

Internal institutional priority: AZM’s current portfolio demonstrates relevant entry points through agriculture, WASH, shelter, disaster assessment and community resilience; however, dedicated climate and environmental programme implementation remains comparatively limited. This should be treated as a capacity-development and portfolio-strengthening priority. Public website wording should emphasize AZM’s commitment and planned direction rather than label the organization as weak.

Economic Empowerment and Islamic Microfinance

AZM Foundation promotes inclusive economic development by improving access to Shariah-compliant finance, enterprise support, technical guidance and market opportunities for low-income households and microentrepreneurs. Climate integration will encourage green microenterprises, energy-efficient technologies, climate-resilient livelihoods and screening of financed activities for environmental harm.

Agriculture and Rural Livelihoods

AZM supports small farmers and rural households through training, information, livestock development, data services and improved linkages with markets and institutions. Climate-smart agriculture, water stewardship, soil health, biodiversity and climate information will be central to future implementation.

Water, Sanitation and Community Infrastructure

AZM works with communities, technical partners and public institutions to develop affordable and locally owned solutions for sanitation, water and essential community infrastructure. Projects will integrate water-resource protection, climate-resilient design, safe waste and sludge management, pollution prevention and environmental screening.

Health and Social Protection

AZM supports underserved families through primary healthcare, health awareness, medical assistance and targeted social-protection initiatives. Programming will address climate-sensitive health risks including heat stress, air pollution, unsafe water, vector-borne disease and disaster-related disruption of essential services.

Education, Skills and Women’s Empowerment

AZM strengthens employability, confidence and economic participation through vocational, adult-learning and market-relevant skills programmes, with a strong focus on women and rural communities. Climate literacy, green skills, safe learning environments and environmentally responsible training practices will be integrated into course design.

Governance, Civic Participation and Social Cohesion

AZM promotes informed citizenship, community awareness, accountable local governance, peace and constructive engagement between citizens and institutions. Future work will strengthen participatory climate governance, environmental rights and responsibilities, community planning and inclusive decision-making around natural resources.

Humanitarian Response and Community Resilience

AZM supports disaster-affected populations through assessment, relief, recovery, shelter, WASH and community-based resilience measures. All humanitarian interventions will apply do-no-harm principles, environmental safeguarding, climate-risk-informed recovery and resilient reconstruction.
